Week 2021-49 #5
Hello 🤓
This issue had 24 hours delay but we are here. Last week I was in Atlanta and was nice to meet past alumni from Ironhack. He moved a few years ago to ATL. I totally loved to visit again and walk on the BeltLine, a massive project to connect the city.
🎢 The Journey
Many times I always mentioned to you, about touchpoints and how to build a better Journey Map. This article expands on how you should think about the omnichannel presence of your product.
Another book that I always recommend is Winning Digital Customers, I like the approach starting from the CURRENT Journey Map and finding the correct opportunities.
Stories everywhere
Currently, we still have App stores and soon I believe you won't need to do it anymore. Using PWA (Progressive Web Apps) will enable websites to run essentially like apps.
Some browsers, for example, Microsoft Edge, do a decent job to install a website as an app on your computer.
In the past days, I was checking Web Stories by Google, which basically brings the story functionality to any website. With this other platforms like Android could read this information and show it as a story on their side.
If you have a WordPress website you can start sharing your website to the Google platform using the new plugin from Google Web Stories.
In a nutshell, you can provide the stories from your website to other platforms.
🕶 VR
VR is a topic that I wanna explore more in the future
Currently, I'm reading any content related to it. And I totally wanna use the combo Adobe XD and Adobe Aero to do it. For now, have some insights from this article written by Ironhack alumni Lenny.
📺 Recommendations for you
Netflix has been a good example of company when we talk about iteration on the product.
However, one thing that never works is their recommendation algorithm, for years Netflix claimed to have a good AI to recommend you the best movies but it's kept me showing The Rock movie. 😒
I heard about this page Netflix launched to share the most-watched shows on their platform: Top 10 by Netflix. It's pretty interesting to explore and see what people are watching around the globe.
But if you still need a personal recommendation you should talk to Mari Schmidt – the Netflix queen 👸🏽.
💼 Portfolio & Jobs
In the last 15 days, I got some messages from students starting a new job in UX/UI. I'm very happy to hear it and see the result of it.
I would like to share Jill's portfolio and Kayla's portfolio. As I suggested to you, focus on the content and the process, enough to understand how you think and solve problems.
BTW this week on Thursday we will have Kayla as a guest speaker talking about her journey since the beginning of this year and landing a job in Microsoft. If you wanna watch is Thursday, December, 9th, 17:00h, Madrid time, in the Zoom link that you know. If you don't know see you in the next newsletter.
See you soon,
Juno
