Week 2021-47 #2
Hello,
I hope you enjoyed the last newsletter 🥰 and thank you for each lovely feedback message.
I will try to bring as much content I can collect every week, so don't be shy and send me some suggestions to the next edition on submit@uxui.email.
Figma Hacks
For Figma Lovers I'm using a lot nowadays the Cmd + P to find commands and especially plugins. For real, Figma needs to improve the plugins interface. Until now finding plugins on Figma is a big mess. If you are open to a Design Sprint session to improve it and make a case study let me know.
Another shortcut that I use every day is Cmd + Y to adjust Autolayout, it gives you an x-ray vision, pretty much what Adobe Illustrator does for vector.
One cool plugin that I use another day was Fyfill, it allows you to use album cover images from 📻 Spotify into your Figma file.
∞ Meta
Since your friend, Mark announced the new Facebook name 'Meta' and their big push to this new metaverse world a lot of things are being discussed. I know that most of us prefer the real world but like my generation that we enjoyed a world without the internet, the current generation will be remembered as the generation when we started interacting virtually only.
During this transition, I believe UX/UI Designers will play a very interesting role in the future. If you wanna try I recommend you to learn a little bit of Adobe XD and Adobe Aero. To download a free version of XD use this link.
Try to design something to have in your portfolio. This will help you a lot once Apple, Facebook, and other players launch their 👓 glasses. And new opportunities will urge in this new world, for example, I was reading this article that now people are buying digital clothes to wear in social media but soon those companies are going to sell in the metaverse thing.
We are going to live in this hybrid world for a long time and at least Nike set a goal to be 100% sustainable by 2025 in the real world and working in future plans on the new metaverse world and they already have jobs opportunities to design it: Virtual Material Designer II and Virtual Material Designer I Footwear.
To inspire you to create something into AR/VR, please read this amazing final project by Nuno and Lenny:
By the way, if you have any case study please send me, I will add you also to our publication.
And if you are worried about the carbon emission from planes soon you will be capable to visit cities like Seoul in the metaverse. The South Korean capital will be fully operational in 2026 at metaverse.
Discovery
It's good to remember that you are not the user and ignoring your discovery phase can harm your product and ultimately your designer's reputation. To avoid it I selected some articles for you.
Picturephone: o invento mais falho da história completa 50 anos (in 🇧🇷 Portuguese) use Google translator.
An ecological perspective on new product failure: The effects of competitive overcrowding
Featured Portfolio 👉 Daria Izbash
This portfolio is not UX/UI related but is very inspiring. I loved the transitions and the structure.
If you wanna keep your UI in shape 🏋️♀️ check this article and for every minute you spend reading design articles, you must spend 10 minutes actually designing.
Copy Machines ⤵️
It's so many tools in the market that is really hard to pick a winner. ClickUp raised $400 million dollars to bet into Notion & Miro because the global interactive whiteboards market is expected to reach $2.31 billion by 2025. It's crazy to think about how many whiteboard tools we have right now 🤪 and basically every collaboration startup is copying each other, like Sketch, XD and Figma.
➡️ ClickUp launched Whiteboards (similar to Miro)➡️ ClickUp launched Docs (similar to Notion)➡️ Microsoft launched Loop (similar to Notion)➡️ Airtable launched Interface Designer (to create dashboard similar to Google Datastudio, very interesting to keep track of your UX Research)
See you next week.
